Samsung Edges out Apple in Smartphone Distribution Percentages

It has been a surreal year for Apple and Samsung. These two bitter rivals have turned to a series of increasingly bizarre lawsuits, regulations, and advertising campaigns in order to knock each other down and to gain more global market share.

Samsung recently edged out Apple in reports over total smartphones sold and used across the world. The percentage is small, but is enough to make a big impact across the tech industry. After all, Apple has long been considered the “golden child” of technology, breaking records with every release for the last decade.

The key to Samsung’s advantage is their Galaxy Line of phone, particularly the Galaxy S3. While it can be argued that earlier Samsung smartphones were clearly designed to be lower priced Apple mimics, the S3 has come into its own as a standard of innovation and excellence for many people around the world.

While the iPhone 5 is secure in its dominance with opening day sales records, the Galaxy S3 has crept up on Apple and has contributed to the bleeding off of Apple customers. One thing is for sure- Apple is not the same entity that it was under Steve Jobs, for better or for worse.

No matter which brand you prefer, you have to admit that the battle for dominance between these two giants is impressive- as well as a bit intimidating. With Apples bid to completely block Samsung’s best products in the United States and the mass of rejections in favor of Samsung in European courts, it is likely that this battle is far from over.
