If you own a PC, July 29th is a big day. It is the day that Microsoft is releasing their new Windows 10 operating system.

Whenever a new operating system is released, the first question asked is “should I do it?” People want to know what the advantages are to upgrading to the new system over simply sticking with what they know. To help you decide whether you want to upgrade or not, here is our list of 5 ways the Windows 10 upgrade will make your life easier.

#1. Cortana

Cortana is Windows’ virtual personal assistant. While she has been on Window’s smartphones for some time, Windows 10 marks the first time that Cortana will also be available on your desktop and laptop. Cortana can search for information, send you reminders, pull up requested documents, and even crack some jokes. Cortana can be the program that keeps you organized, on time, and up-to-date.

#2. Universal Apps

Most people use more than one device. With universal apps, Microsoft is making it easier than ever to switch back and forth between your smartphone, tablet, and computer. One of the most talked about universal app is the Calendar. This app will offer consistency between the calendars on all your devices, making sure that you never miss an appointment. Another app is the Photo app, which will organize (including removing duplicates) of all your photos across your devices. Now you can take your favorite photos on your smartphone and have instant access on your desktop. It will even automatically touch up your photos, making sure that you always look your best.

#3. Xbox App

If you’re a gamer, then Windows 10 is going to make your hands itch for your controller. The Xbox app allows you to play all your favorite games while enjoying full messaging support and an activity feed that shows you what all your friends are up to. It is even equipped with Game DVR, which allows you to share clips of your games with your friends and other Xbox One users.

But it gets even better. One of the most exciting features of the new Xbox app is that it will allow cross-play between Windows 10 users and Xbox One gamers. And there are hints that the ability to stream Xbox One games to your Windows 10 devices is not to far away.

#4. The New Internet Browser

Microsoft has been teasing the public with promises of a new Internet browser that will replace Internet Explorer. Still currently known as Project Spartan, this new browser features touch technology that allows you to mark up your screen without the use of any special tools. All you need is your finger and you have the ability to circle information and write notes to yourself directly onto the webpage.

#5. Continuum

Microsoft has been a leader in the tablet/laptop hybrid. With Continuum, Windows 10 will make it infinitely easier for a user to switch back and forth between laptop and tablet mode. When your keyboard and mouse are connected to your device, Windows 10 automatically use the desktop settings on your screen. However, when you unplug those elements, Continuum will ask if you want to transfer to tablet mode. When you say yes, your screen will transform into the more touch-friendly settings.

Upgrades always have the potential to be really exciting. With these new features, Windows 10 has the capability of making the lives of its users easier on all of their devices.
