In case you haven’t been keeping up with the news, Apple has recently sued Samsung for over a billion dollars, citing patent infringement violations on the part of one of its biggest competitors.

This move by Apple is meant to stop Samsung from making and distributing specific models of smartphone on the market. As Samsung has been heavily influenced by Apple design and functionality, this is a hard hit for the Korean giant to take. Right now, Apple is seeking a US ban of some Samsung smartphones which are currently out on the market. The decision is still pending.

When it all comes down to it, this move looks to be Apple strategically cutting down one of its biggest competitors as they gain ground in the market that used to be dominated by Apple. Whether or not this is a shrewd move by Apple as they get near to the release of the iPhone 5 remains to be seen.

One thing is for sure- this move by Apple will doubtlessly change up the paradigm of the tech industry. The tech industry has long been about copying concepts and improving on them in order to win over consumers, which has largely driven the innovations we have seen in the last decade- and this has included Apple itself.

Getting new technology to market is definitely going to involve more creative ways of copying and applying concepts. It is going to lead to new market conditions, no matter what the future holds.
