How well do you Know Your Computer?

You may know how to start your computer and navigate the programs that you use frequently, but do you know how the computer works or what the basic components of your computer are? Understanding your computer and how it works may help you have an easier time using it and if you run into a problem you may have an easier time diagnosing the problem and making sure that it is fixed properly.

The basics of your computer…

  1. The motherboard – Everything on your computer is connected to the motherboard. This motherboard is a circuit board. The motherboard is where the “brain” of your computer is connected to the computer.
  2. The CPU – The Central Processing Unit, or CPU is the ‘brain’ of the computer. The CPU’s speed is measured in megahertz and this is where the information about your operating system is held.
  3. The Hard Drive – Your hard drive is where the information is stored on your computer. Your hard drive will store the information you save on your computer, even when you turn your computer off.

These components of your computer may not be something that you are touching or having direct contact with when you use your computer, but you use each of these components every time that you get on your computer. Having a sound understanding of how your computer works and what makes up your computer will make a difference in your ability to understand and use your computer effectively and efficiently.
