In today’s modern world the personal computer has become a staple of everyday life. Even those few persons who do not use computers in their daily work life will most likely have access to a home computer on which they perform other necessary tasks.

With all of the access to information that computers allow and with all of the work they can help an individual perform, this trend of a computer in every home and in every office of industry is not surprising. But what can be surprising, and downright aggravating, is when the computer you are working on suddenly shuts off, goes blank, or explodes in the dreaded blue screen of death.

These and other common computer problems are among the most frequent occurring issues that one might experience with their computers. The following is a list of five common computer problems and what can be done to fix them.

The Computer Shuts Off or Won’t Start. This is perhaps the most common computer problem and may be the simplest fix. Often, this is a sign that the power source to the computer is malfunctioning or out of service and quick check of the power supply may fix this problem. If not, professional aid may be required.

  1. Malfunctioning Operating System. The most common cause of a malfunctioning operating system is the presence of a virus or other malicious adware that the computer has picked up. Restarting the computer and running a virus scan may be the best help. Consider also installing a reliable anti-virus program if the problem persists.
  2. Frozen Screen. Screen freezes are often a result of insufficient memory on the computer, malfunctioning files, or spyware that is attacking the system. Professional diagnostics and working to clean up the system yourself should limit the frequency of frozen screens.
  3. Slow Computer. Often computers will begin to run slower as addition files and programs are created and stored on it. Clean out unwanted files will help regain some lost speed.
  4. Slow Internet. Like the computer itself, the Internet connection between the server and the computer can get jammed full of your cookies and temporary files that have been stored as a result of your Internet use. Clearing these will increase Internet browsing speed.

These and other computer problems plague the modern world and frustrate almost every person at least once in life. Most, however, can be fixed either by you the user or by a computer professional off site.
